I’m a visual artist based in MidCoast Maine where I spend as much time as possible outdoors, observing the natural world which is my greatest inspiration. My work is a combination of science and surrealism and explores themes of growth and decay, symbiotic relationships, and the importance of pollinators. I love to explore the smallest details in nature and how they relate to each other and to us.
Kate Burgau was raised as a military child and had lived on both coasts, but spent the majority of her time in the Northern Midwest. She spent her earliest years in a remote area of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and that kindled a love for exploring outdoors. Kate received a BFA in Design/Illustration from Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 2002, and has since lived in the Southwestern Desert, the Pacific Northwest, and the Northern Midwest. She has been residing and creating in the beautiful state of Maine since 2018 where she enjoys gardening, cooking, learning about plants and animals, and heading to the mountains and water by foot, bike, or canoe.
